2007 member awards
During our 2008 Annual Meeting, we presented the 2007 Youth Recruitment Initiatives Award to Butler University for involving faculty and staff in its new Adopt-A-River cleanup program.

2006 member awards
As part of our mission, we promote active involvement in the White River watershed by others. During our January 2007 Annual Meeting, Friends Executive Director Kevin Hardie presented unique “paddle plaques” to honor extraordinary efforts during 2006 (and earlier) by three groups and one individual.
Tom White
Tom White of the Indianapolis Department of Public Works was presented an award for Dedicated Service. For the past 18 years, he’s helped make the downtown spring bank clean-ups a safe and fun event, one where volunteers and city workers come together to make a major difference.
Gaylor Group
The Gaylor Group of Carmel was presented an award for
Going the Extra Mile in conjunction with their annual
Adopt-A-River sweeps. Their spring and fall efforts targeting the
segment from 126th to 116th Street have grown steadily, not only in
terms of the number of volunteers involved, but also in the
distance covered and amount of trash collected. Cheryl
Giannuzzi, who coordinates the event, accepted the award to
the company.
KeyBank
KeyBank, which has been
involved with a Friends-sponsored restoration project on the northside
of Indianapolis for the past four years was recognized for their
Commitment to the Community. Each September, bank
employees such as Curtis Hollis work on public service
projects throughout the city. Their efforts with Friends and Indy Parks
staff have greatly improved the habitat between College Avenue and
Meridian Street.
Alcoa Closure Systems International
Exceeding
Expectations was the title of the award presented to Alcoa Closure Systems International.
President Lance Mitchell was one of more
than 25 employees and family members who turned out to assist
Friends’ clean-up crew on our adopted segment between I-465 and
82nd Street last fall. That’s a new record from any single
supporter of the twice-yearly events, one that was complimented by a
surprise $3,000 donation from Alcoa to FOWR.
